New Book Offers Guidance to Health Information Exchange Formation

On the first day of the HIMSS11 conference, this HIMSS Insider Magazine article announces the newly published book written by Laura Kolkman and Bob Brown, The Health Information Exchange Formation Guide. The article describes the rich content of the book, which is based upon the authors’ experiences as nationally recognized HIE consultants. The book describes Mosaica’s HIE Maturity Framework and includes numerous case studies, examples, checklists and references that greatly assist a forming HIE.

Dr. Joe Bormel writes about highlights from a recent conference he attended, “Achieving Meaningful Use Criteria With Electronic Health Record Technology.” In this article, he cites one of the presenters, Laura Kolkman, the president and founder of Mosaica Partners. Laura walked through and detailed a five-stage HIE maturity model. This maturity model, which was developed by Mosaica Partners, is also the centerpiece of a new HIMSS guidebook the Laura and Bob Brown are writing. The book titled, "The Health Information Exchange Formation Guide: An Authoritative Guide to Planning and Forming an HIE in your State, Region, or Community" is scheduled to come out in January.
