EHNAC Forum on Health Information Exchange (HIE) "Dispelling the Myth that All Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) Are Created Equal" January 25, 2012
On January 25, 2012 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm EST, EHNAC will host a free webinar during which a panel of healthcare professionals will discuss the current state of the HIE model. The panel members include Laura Kolkman, president, Mosaica Partners; Jan Root, president and CEO, UHIN; William O'Byrne, CEO, NeHC; and Jennifer Covich Bordenick, CEO, eHI. The webinar will examine how the HIE model has evolved, the major players involved, the factors all stakeholders should consider, and the impact of the Direct Project and NwHIN.

NCHICA Academic Medical Centers (AMC) Conference "Changing Risks & Requirements: The New World of Healthcare Security & Privacy" Chapel Hill, NC April 22 - 25 2012
On Monday, April 23, Laura Kolkman will participate in this conference as a panel member in the "Privacy & Security Issues Assocaited with ACOs" session. This session will discuss the confidentiality and HIPAA issues involved with accountable care organizations (ACOs) and the Medicare Shared Savings program. The conference provides an opportunity to learn about how other AMCs are handling important privacy and security issues such as the Omnibus Privacy Regulation, BioBanking, Risk Analysis, Breach Assessment, Cyber Crime & Espionage, and Cloud Computing.

2012 eHI Annual Conference Cancer, Diabetes and Heart Disease: Improving Care Through eHealth Washington, DC January 11 - 12, 2012
Bob Brown and Laura Kolkman attended this eHI annual conference. The conference focused on eHealth tools and resources that help address the most critical healthcare problems facing our nation (i.e. heart disease, cancer and diabetes). Speakers and panels provided specific examples to demonstrate how care coordination, accountable care, mhealth, analytics, and data exchange are making significant improvements in both patient care and overall healthcare cost savings.

HIMSS Midwest Area Chapters Fall Technology Conference Indianapolis, IN November 13 - 15, 2011
On November 14, 2011, Laura Kolkman and Terrisca Des Jardins presented "Taking Action: Tips from the Detroit Beacon Community Trenches", which described the work and the successes that the Detroit Beacon (SEMBC - www.sembc.org) has been doing to help the community's diabetic population. Terrisca is the Program Director of SEMBC.

USF College of Public Health University of South Florida - Tampa, FL November 4, 2011
Laura Kolkman is a member of the USF College of Public Health Advisory Board. The College of Public Health's mission is to improve the public’s health through advancing discovery, learning, and service. The College continues to do great things in Florida and around the world. Locally, the College engages in various community service projects, that recently included a free flu shot drive and the building of a neighborhood playground. Internationally, the College promotes collaboration in education, reasearch and patient care, by supporting a research facility in Panama and sending supervised intern teams abroad to serve in healthcare facilities in underdeveloped countries.

Alabama HIMSS 2011 Fall Conference Point Clear, Alabama October 5 - 7, 2011
On October 7, 2011, Laura Kolkman presented "HIE: Meaningful Use and Beyond". During this session, attendees gained a better understanding of the role of HIE in transforming the nation’s healthcare system and the status of the high impact programs underway as part of both HITECH and PPACA. They also explored the critical role of HIE in achieving meaningful use and how the secure exchange of health information provides the essential groundwork for improving healthcare now and into the future.

eHealth Initiative's 2011 National Forum on Health Information Exchange (HIE) Washington, DC July 14, 2011
Members of the Mosaica Partners management team attended The HIE Forum, which convened healthcare leaders from across the 50 states to discuss the challenges and best practices needed to achieve sustainable national health information exchange. The Forum coincided with the release of the 2011 eHI HIE Survey. Laura Kolkman served on the Planning Committee for this event.
